Shwedagon Pagoda: The Crown of Burma

Arguably the oldest pagoda in the world, the Shwedagon Pagoda or the Golden Pagoda is the most revered and remarkable destination in Yangon, Myanmar. Set on top of Singuttara hill in downtown Yangon, this monumental work of art and Burmese architecture is plated with Gold and studded with diamonds and other precious gems. At night, the 99 meter high central stupa and the surrounding buildings are illuminated by spotlights, creating a mystic atmosphere for Buddhists and tourists alike.
